funny stuff
I got a little bored this weekend, so I decided I needed a new hobby. For some reason, I thought lock picking would be a good one, but I honestly can’t remember why I thought that. Anyway, I used my Dremel and made some picks and tension wrenches out of hacksaw blades and part of an old windscreen wiper:
It’s surprising how easy some locks are to pick. I can usually pick my bike lock, a Kryptonite KrF2 in just a few seconds.
In Australia, the availability of ready-to-eat decent food doesn’t really compare to the US or Canada. For example, the other day I bought the best frozen pizza I could find at the grocery store for supper, rather than ordering one. This is what I got:
Notice the over abundance of pepperoni, cheese, and the whole 3 mushrooms? How about that lovely freezer burn? How do they manufacture such a gourmet item and still be able to sell it for $8?
Sadly, this pizza is made by McCain’s, a Canadian company. Maybe if they read this they will send me free stuff.
I know it’s actually August now, but the other day it was like Christmas in July:
I joined one of the online Australian wine clubs because they usually send you great wine at reasonable prices. They recently had a special where you got a free case of wine worth $300 if you bought two cases of any other wine. So, I bought two cheap 16 bottle cases – one of just reds, and of mixed bargain reds and whites. With the free case, I ended up with 44 bottles of wine for $300. That’s less than $7/bottle, which is really cheap (Australia is like Canada in that alcohol is highly taxed). There aren’t any “two buck Chuck” type wines available here like there are in the US, and beer is ~$14/6 pack.
So far the only dissapointing wine I’ve had from these mixes is Yellow Tail’s Merlot – it’s terrible! It reminds me of vanilla grape juice, if there is such a thing. In Australia, Yellow Tail is kind of like Fosters beer – no one drinks it, it’s the crap they send overseas for cheap. Luckily, the wine club will refund your money for any wines you don’t like, so I think I will be giving them a call.
